Fertilizer schedule for the new American Lawn

It’s finally spring and we are all excited to get back to the great outdoors! We can’t wait to smell the newly fresh cut grass, the scents of fresh spread bark mulch and running our feet through lush green lawns! Spring lawn prep is beneficial to getting the best results for the best lawn.

FIRST start off by assessing your lawn from the winter, check for rodent or previous insect damage and analyze your soil and grass conditions. BEFORE applying any fertilizer or pre-emergent herbicide rake lawn areas of all debris. This helps aerate your lawn, helps with circulation and allows your grass to start growing up. NOW is a good time to use an early spring fertilizer to jump start your lawn. Applying pelletized calcium or pelletized lime will help with soil ph and improve your soil for proper fertilzer absorption. Consider using a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent crabgrass when soil temperatures begin to reach 55 degrees. A good rule of thumb is when you see the yellow forsythia shrubs blooming, the crabgrass seeds also begin to germinate.
